Job Description:
A land surveyor measures and maps land boundaries, ensuring accurate property lines for construction, legal documentation, and land development. They use specialized equipment to collect data on land contours, elevations, and features, which is then used to create detailed maps and report.
Job Responsibility:
- Conducting land measurements and surveys.
- Mapping and preparing site plans.
- Determining and marking property boundaries.
- Providing data for construction and development projects.
- Preparing legal documentation of land descriptions.
- Collaborating with engineers, architects, and planners.
- Ensuring compliance with regulations and standards.
- Managing surveying projects and field crews.
Educational Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree: A degree in land surveying, geomatics, civil engineering, or a related field is often required. Some positions may accept an associate degree with additional experience.
Professional License: In most regions, land surveyors must be licensed. This usually involves passing exams such as the Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) and the Principles and Practice of Surveying (PS) in the United States.
