Description:
Mitsubishi Chemical America is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Payroll Manager to oversee payroll operations across the United States and the Americas. This is a strategic leadership role focused on ensuring accurate payroll processing, compliance, system optimization, and continuous improvement within a global Workday environment. The ideal candidate will act as a key subject matter expert and lead payroll transformation initiatives while managing a small team of payroll professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead, supervise, and mentor a team of up to five Payroll Specialists, providing training and performance support
• Oversee full-cycle payroll processing for multiple states, entities, and employee types including expatriates and inpatriates
• Serve as the Workday Payroll expert, managing configuration, optimization, troubleshooting, and system enhancements
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations and manage payroll tax administration processes
• Conduct payroll audits and implement process improvements to increase accuracy and operational efficiency
• Collaborate with HR, Finance, Legal, and leadership teams to align payroll operations with business goals
• Lead payroll integration projects for new business units, including data migration and process conversion
• Act as the primary advisor for payroll systems, policies, and operational procedures
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or related field preferred
• 5–7 years of progressive payroll experience with at least 3+ years in a leadership role
• Strong hands-on expertise in Workday Payroll configuration is required
• In-depth knowledge of multi-state payroll, tax compliance, and regulations
• Advanced proficiency in MS Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis)
• Payroll certifications such as CPP or FPC are a plus
• Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
• Experience in payroll system upgrades, audits, and process improvement initiatives
