Description:

Akumin® is currently seeking a detail-oriented Medical Biller to join its healthcare revenue cycle team. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate submission of medical claims to both government and private insurance payers. The position requires strong attention to detail, knowledge of billing systems, and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

The selected candidate will work closely with billing systems, insurance data, and compliance requirements to ensure claims are processed correctly and efficiently. This role is ideal for individuals with prior medical billing experience and a strong understanding of healthcare coding and reimbursement processes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Submit medical claims to government and private payers through electronic data interchange (EDI), paper claims, and payer portals

• Ensure accuracy of all billing information including CPT codes, ICD-10 codes, modifiers, patient types, and procedure details

• Verify that all required documentation and compliance paperwork is complete before claim submission

• Research, correct, and resubmit rejected or denied claims

• Reconcile submitted claims with clearinghouse acceptance records

• Prepare and transmit patient statements for mailing

• Support audit processes by obtaining and organizing required documentation

• Print and manage Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) for secondary claim submissions

• Perform additional administrative billing duties as required

Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent (relevant experience may be considered)

• 1–2 years of medical billing experience is required

• Strong understanding of billing codes, insurance processes, and healthcare documentation

• Ability to work efficiently with multiple computer systems and screens simultaneously

• Strong multitasking, communication, and organizational skills

• Ability to work collaboratively within a team and communicate across departments

• Must be comfortable working in a standard office environment with physical activity such as sitting, standing, and occasional lifting
