Description:
Social Fetch is seeking a skilled Web Scraping Specialist to join its remote engineering team. The role focuses on building and maintaining reliable data-fetching systems that normalize public social media data into a unified API. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with web scraping, browser automation, and handling complex platform changes in production environments.
The successful candidate will own the fetch layer, researching how platforms deliver data, developing scraping solutions, and improving reliability when issues occur. This role requires strong technical problem-solving skills, independence, and the ability to work in an async remote environment where maintaining system stability is a shared responsibility.
Key Responsibilities:
• Build and maintain web scrapers and integrations for platforms including TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Reddit, LinkedIn, Facebook, and other social networks
• Develop solutions for collecting profiles, posts, comments, search results, transcripts, and engagement data
• Diagnose and resolve scraping issues including HTTP errors, schema changes, rate limits, bot detection, geo restrictions, and CAPTCHA challenges
• Design reliable fetching strategies using retries, fallbacks, session handling, and proxy solutions when required
• Maintain stable API field mappings when platforms modify their data structures
• Document platform behaviors, technical challenges, and solutions for internal knowledge sharing
• Monitor production performance, identify data quality issues, and improve system reliability
• Review support issues related to platform changes and implement appropriate fixes
Requirements:
• Several years of practical web scraping experience in production environments
• Strong experience with browser automation tools such as Playwright or Puppeteer
• Experience working with HTTP clients and parsing complex HTML and JSON data
• Strong TypeScript or JavaScript programming skills
• Ability to debug production issues, analyze logs, and deploy effective fixes
• Understanding of public data collection practices, platform limitations, and technical compliance considerations
• Ability to work independently in a remote, async environment
• Strong knowledge of:
• Web scraping, browser automation, and data extraction techniques
• TypeScript, JavaScript, APIs, and JSON/HTML parsing
• Anti-bot systems, rate limiting, proxies, and platform behavior analysis
Nice to Have:
• Experience maintaining scrapers across multiple social platforms
• Familiarity with proxy providers, CAPTCHA solutions, and reverse engineering web/mobile API calls
• Previous experience working with data platforms or API-based products
• Knowledge of observability tools, structured logging, and error tracking systems
• Experience with Effect (Effect-TS) or functional TypeScript libraries
