Overview:
CNO Financial Group is seeking a seasoned Sr. Financial Reporting Analyst to lead accounting and financial statement preparation for assigned business entities. This role is responsible for delivering accurate STAT and GAAP reporting, supporting regulatory filings, and contributing to internal controls and accounting policy documentation. The position is bonus-eligible and the stated pay range is based on a national-average location; actual pay will be determined by experience, skills, and location.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare periodic STAT and GAAP financial statements for assigned entities.
  • Draft and post journal entries, eliminations, and reconciliations, with supporting documentation sufficient for audit evidence.
  • Produce analyses and documentation that substantiate financial statement balances and disclosures.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve accounting or reporting issues and explain material variances versus prior periods and plan.
  • Build complex calculations and analyses necessary for GAAP and STAT reporting using advanced accounting concepts and tools with minimal supervision.
  • Prepare statutory and GAAP disclosures required for regulatory filings, including NAIC statutory filings and SEC 10-Q / 10-K submissions.
  • Lead and participate in cross-functional projects, collaborating with Finance, IT, and other partners.
  • Communicate findings and present information to various levels of the organization.
  • Support and help maintain a robust internal control environment meeting SOX objectives.
  • Assist in documenting and ensuring compliance with company regulatory requirements and accounting policies.
  • Support the Director of Accounting Policy with technical accounting research and policy documentation.

What you’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • Approximately five years of experience in accounting and financial reporting.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze large data sets, identify complex accounting issues, and implement solutions.
  • Detail-oriented with a solid understanding of accounting principles and reporting requirements.
  • Comfort working independently and collaboratively across teams.

Preferred / Differentiators:

  • Master’s degree in Accounting or an MBA.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • Prior experience in the insurance industry.
  • Experience using Workiva or similar reporting platforms.

Remote & Location Policy:
CNO supports flexible work arrangements. Associates within a 60-mile radius of a corporate office (Birmingham, Carmel, Chicago, Orlando, Milwaukee) may access those offices; associates living outside that radius may work full-time from home from any U.S.-based location (central or eastern time zone hours preferred). Periodic travel to corporate offices may be required. Work must be performed from within the United States.
