Overview:
Staples’ Human Resources team is seeking a seasoned Senior Specialist to drive payroll process excellence and business process improvements. You’ll act as a subject-matter expert on payroll systems, lead process optimization projects, and partner with cross-functional teams (IT, HRIS, Tax) to ensure accurate payroll processing, compliance and efficient operations across the organization.
What you’ll be doing:
- Manage and troubleshoot payroll systems, apply system changes, and execute testing to ensure payroll integrity.
- Perform payroll audits, lead payroll-related projects and act as the go-to SME for payroll transactions.
- Lead process-improvement initiatives and coordinate cross-functional project teams to streamline finance and HR operations.
- Mentor and train junior analysts on complex payroll processes and system usage.
- Collaborate with IT, HRIS and tax teams to roll out system upgrades, tax updates and other technical changes.
- Analyze business performance metrics and recommend actions to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
- Serve as a business advisor to leaders, presenting insights and progress on key initiatives and milestones.
- Ensure processes comply with corporate policies and applicable legal requirements while championing process excellence.

Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of payroll experience.

- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field.
- Experience in a large, matrixed organization.
- Prior exposure to HRIS systems and IT project collaboration.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop team members.
