We’re growing and looking for a dependable Payroll Specialist to support multiple long-term client assignments on a part-time, remote basis.
Role Summary:
As a Part-Time Payroll Specialist, you’ll own end-to-end payroll processing for assigned clients, ensuring timely, accurate payroll runs and reliable payroll reporting. You will act as the client’s internal payroll specialist — managing payroll workflows independently, resolving payroll queries, and partnering with Griffin team members to meet client needs.
Payroll Responsibilities:
- Execute full-cycle payroll for client employees, including data entry, calculations, and final pay processing.
- Calculate wages, deductions, benefits, commissions, and tax withholdings.
- Prepare and process paychecks and electronic deposits and maintain payroll transaction records.
- Perform payroll reconciliations and prepare financial reports for accounting and audits.
- Manage payroll-related updates (new hires, terminations, changes to pay or deductions).
- Respond to employee and manager payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies.
- Prepare and distribute income statements and other payroll documentation.
- Serve as a subject-matter expert for payroll administration, supporting other payroll/HR staff when needed.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations and filing requirements (FLSA, FICA, ACA, garnishments, etc.).
- Maintain high attention to detail and confidentiality in all payroll matters.
Qualifications & Skills:
- 3+ years of payroll processing experience and experience in HR/payroll functional areas.
- Working knowledge of payroll laws and multi-state payroll complexities.
- Hands-on experience with payroll and accounting software; strong Excel skills and familiarity with Google Apps.
- Excellent communication, time-management, and organizational abilities.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ownership mentality.
- Extreme attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information professionally.
Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or related field preferred.
- Payroll certification (CPP, FPC, CPS) preferred but not mandatory.
