Description:
Ad Hoc LLC is seeking a Manager of Engineering to lead the technical direction of the RISE Event Bus workstream and provide oversight for a team of engineers. This remote role focuses on shaping program architecture, managing customer relationships from a technical perspective, and mentoring direct reports to ensure delivery success.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Understand program scope, schedule, and cost; communicate delivery requirements clearly to team members
• Report program progress and highlight obstacles
• Coach and develop engineering team members, define growth goals, and create a culture of learning
• Provide recommendations for pay, performance, and bonuses; handle performance escalations and onboarding
• Plan and deliver complex projects involving multiple teams
• Use strong written and presentation skills to explain systems, design decisions, and project performance
• Participate in bid-writing, tech demos, strategic planning, and other customer-facing communications
• Manage hiring, performance evaluations, PTO, and team development
• Lead team processes and build collaborative relationships with Program and Practice leadership
• Identify risks and collaborate to mitigate them
• Present ongoing work, future goals, and risks to stakeholders
• Translate and communicate technical challenges and roadmaps effectively
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of relevant experience (experience may substitute for education)
• Expertise in Java and Kafka
• 2+ years of people management experience; 3+ years leading cross-functional teams
• Extensive experience with software development, customer interactions, communication, and mentorship
Preferred Qualifications:
• Understanding of government contracting requirements and regulations
