As a Data Engineer, you will be a key contributor to the Data Engineering team, focusing on building and maintaining reliable, scalable data pipelines that power analytics, marketing, product, and data science initiatives. This role combines hands-on technical work with the opportunity to shape the future of Underdog’s evolving data platform.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and maintain production-grade data pipelines supporting analytics, marketing, and data science teams
• Design, build, and optimize scalable cloud-based infrastructure for batch and real-time data processing
• Partner closely with analytics, engineers, data scientists, and business stakeholders to translate data needs into scalable solutions
• Implement monitoring, alerting, and logging to ensure pipeline reliability and performance
• Perform data validation and establish strong data quality checks on production datasets
• Communicate progress, risks, blockers, and resolutions clearly with cross-functional teams
Who You Are:
• 3+ years of experience building scalable data pipelines in cloud-native environments such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
• 2+ years of experience using tools like dbt, Spark, or Flink, along with BI platforms such as Looker or Sigma
• Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL
• Experience with streaming data technologies such as Apache Kafka, AWS Kinesis, or similar platforms
• Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform or CDK
• Strong ownership mindset with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical teams
Nice to Have:
• Strong interest in sports or prior experience in sports-related industries
• Background in sports betting or other regulated industries
• Knowledge of data privacy and compliance frameworks such as GDPR or CCPA
• Exposure to machine learning concepts or ML platform development
