Description:

Wiley is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Publisher to join its Partner Publishing Americas team. This role provides an opportunity to support journal publishing operations, manage publishing partner relationships, and contribute to the growth and development of academic publications.

The successful candidate will work closely with Publishers, Senior Managers, and cross-functional teams to support journal reviews, partner communications, renewal activities, portfolio analysis, and publishing services. This position is ideal for someone interested in academic publishing, relationship management, project coordination, and data-driven decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support and maintain relationships with publishing partners, including learned societies and universities, through effective communication and reporting.

• Assist journal teams with development activities by analyzing journal performance, market trends, financial information, and bibliometric data.

• Maintain regular communication with partners to support open access strategies and journal growth initiatives.

• Research and prepare materials for journal publishing agreement renewals, including business proposals and presentations.

• Support contract renewal processes by collaborating with internal teams and external partners.

• Encourage partner compliance with journal process improvements through effective communication and collaboration.

• Work with teams across Publishing, Finance, Author Support, Legal, Corporate Sales, and Journal Editorial Management to support end-to-end publishing services.

• Identify insights, trends, opportunities, and improvement areas related to journal development.

• Assist Publishers and Senior Managers with partner relationships, renewals, and new business opportunities.

Requirements:

• Some experience in publishing, academic journals, research, or a related field.

• Strong interest in developing expertise in journal publishing and academic research.

• Excellent written communication skills with the ability to create clear and accurate documents.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

• Ability to analyze data and use insights to support reports and recommendations.

• Excellent attention to detail, including editing, proofreading, and quality checks.

• Strong relationship-building skills with internal teams and external partners.

• Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple departments.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Strong knowledge of:
• Publishing workflows, journal management, and academic research environments
• Data analysis, reporting, and presentation development
• Microsoft Office tools and professional communication practices

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience in academic publishing, journal publishing, research, or society publishing.

• Experience supporting external partners, clients, stakeholders, or professional relationships.

• Experience preparing reports, presentations, proposals, or meeting materials.

• Intermediate Excel skills, including pivot tables, formulas, charts, and data summaries.

• Experience working with publishing performance, financial, or bibliometric data.

• Ability to develop insights and recommendations from research and analysis.

• Interest in open access publishing and the broader research publishing industry.
