Hiring Senior Backend Engineer (JAVA or Kotlin)

Work from Home (Remote)
We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with expertise in either Java or Kotlin, experience with GraphQL, and proficiency in any major cloud provider. This role is pivotal in designing and operating backend services that support drivers in their daily activities, such as navigation, preferences, and authentication.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Designing testable, scalable, and observable backend services for a global mobile application.
- Developing backend service solutions, including cloud infrastructure services selection and setup, monitoring and alerting, and integration with several 3rd-party APIs.
- Working closely with Mobile App developers, 3rd party API developers, and software architects to collaborate on solutions that serve Honda drivers with the best experience.
- Troubleshooting production issues, develop and release hotfixes.
- Contributing to CI/CD pipeline infrastructure.
Required skills:
- 5 years to 8 years using Java and Kotlin. Experience with both is required, but expertise in either or is enough
- Experience with GraphQL APIs, including query tuning and managing multiple resolvers.
- A track record of shipping performant API integrations and interfaces.
- Experience with a major cloud provider such as GCP, AWS, or Azure.
- Experience architecting, building, and operating cloud-native backend services.
- A flexible attitude and entrepreneurial mindset. Be willing to engage outside of your usual responsibility area, learn new technologies, and tackle challenges beyond backend development.
Bonus skills
- Experience with infrastructure such as code (IaC), such as Terraform or Cloudformation.
- Japanese fluency. (good to have)
