Position Overview
The Purchasing Agent ensures optimal inventory management by evaluating store demand needs against current inventory levels and oversees incoming supply to maintain high levels of customer service through in-stock availability. The Purchasing Agent is a key driver of a positive customer experience at SiteOne stores. This role serves as a vital link between sellers, field leaders, suppliers, and regional inventory managers, leveraging analytics and clear, concise communication to drive efficiency and collaboration.
This position will operate in EST hours.
Objectives Of This Role
- Perform day-to-day purchasing activities such as evaluating store demand needs, building optimized purchase orders (POs), tracking deliveries, refreshing and publishing weekly reports, communicating with business partners, and attending or leading meetings
- Identify gaps and take action to improve KPIs such as in-stock availability, inventory productivity, supplier performance (production, fill rate, lead time, and on-time)
- Manage daily communication with stores and sales leadership to address urgent customer demand and/or various product questions
- Build and maintain trustworthy relationships with SiteOne suppliers through clear, consistent communication regarding purchasing expectations, compliance, and performance
- Proactively manage and share supplier information regarding product availability and purchase order status, while resolving issues related to delayed shipments or discrepancies in orders
- Collaborate with category managers, field leaders, and regional inventory managers to align our stocking strategies from a purchasing standpoint
- Assist purchasing managers in evaluating early orders, product promotions and cost fluctuation opportunities
Skills We Are Seeking
- Understanding of purchasing, supply/demand planning, and inventory management philosophies
- Strong negotiation and communication skills, experience managing a large supplier-base a plus
- Experience working cross-functionally and supporting teams across different departments
- Excellent customer service and problem-solving abilities
- Attention to detail and ability to prioritize workload and communicate timing and challenges in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to build positive relationships and influence without authority to accomplish collective goals
- Strong written and verbal communication
Preferred Qualifications
- 4-year Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Logistics, Economics, or similar focus
- 2-4 years’ work experience in a retail or wholesale supply chain environment, preferably with a focus on Purchasing, Procurement, and/or Replenishment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel (use of data pivots, data visualization to show trends, and extensive knowledge of formulas and functions)
- Experience with ERP and supply chain planning systems (BlueYonder, Oracle, SAP-IBP, D365, etc.)
- Working knowledge of SQL and understanding of database design a plus
