What Health System Pharmacy Contributes To Cardinal Health
Pharmacy Operations is responsible for the safe, efficient and effective coordination of Cardinal Health’s pharmacy operations that service acute care hospitals, hospital retail customers, ambulatory care and alternate site facilities, oncology and cardiology practices as well as retail customers.
Health System Pharmacy is responsible for providing customized pharmacy program solutions that reduce costs and improve patient care quality for hospitals, health systems and other integrated healthcare providers may also consult with and advise healthcare team on prescribed medications, supplies and related processes.
Job Summary
The Manager, Pharmacy coordinates, directs, manages, facilitates, and oversees the execution and evaluates all administrative and clinical activities. Through the optimization of procedures, this role ensures consistent and efficient delivery to control costs, minimize waste, optimize customer relationships and deliver positive patient outcomes while maintaining compliance with Federal and state regulatory agencies. Along with maintain inventory control and budget, this role is responsible for staffing, monitoring staff activities, performance and achievement of individual and departmental goals.
Responsibilities
- Implement policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of RPS services
- Coordinate and integrate RPS services with MMS Specialty Pharmacy (MMS)
- Provide data reports to MMS, and Cardinal Health Remote Pharmacy Services as necessary
- Manage team of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Clerks and ensure staffing is aligned with MMS need
- Coordinate with other Cardinal business units as necessary
- Ensure RPS compliance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, and standards of all agencies that license, accredit, or certify the RPS Team
- Ensure that the RPS Team conducts business in accordance with accepted ethical and professional standards
- Perform a biannual verification of staff licensure per licensure guidelines
- Establish and maintain a Policy & Procedures database specific to MMS
- Oversee maintenance of employee records (e.g. annual competencies)
- Supervise the new hire process for required staff
- Ensure MMS system access requirements are met for current and new users
- Communicate with the RPS Team on a regular basis
- Implement remote pharmacy services that comply with all regulatory requirements by developing policies and procedures and appropriate orientation, training, and education to staff that provide these services
- As necessary, implement a process to ensure the collection of necessary client information (policies/procedures, formulary, protocols, clinical initiatives, etc.) designed to provide seamless continuum of care
- Implement a process designed to continually update and educate staff (this should reflect continual interaction with client on process functions as well as clinical education of staff)
- Implement a work environment standard of: making a positive first impression the priority; practicing professionalism; serving others from a team-centered approach; projecting a positive attitude; making excellence the goal
- Implement a process designed to ensure that the RPS Team is operates efficiently with respect to staffing, resources, equipment, and profitability
- Analysis of financial and workload information is required. Verbal and/or written reports on the findings, observations, and recommendations are expected
- Implement and adhere to a process designed to ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Provide Quality of Service Reviews and/or activity reports to clients, staff, and Cardinal Health as necessary
- Strive to identify opportunities for new business lines/services or for cross-selling of existing lines/services
- Conduct monthly client communication
- Perform staff performance evaluations
- Coach and develop team members
- Review payroll entries including verification and monitoring of PTO
Qualifications
- 4-8 years of experience, preferred
- Must have or be willing to obtain a TN Pharmacist License
- Bachelor’s degree in related field, or equivalent work experience, preferred
