The Position
The Payment Posting Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate and efficient posting of payments, adjustments, and denials from insurance companies, patients, and third-party payers. This role is essential in maintaining financial integrity and supporting revenue cycle operations by reconciling payments and identifying discrepancies. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented and proficient in medical billing systems.
Responsibilities
- Post all insurance and patient payments, adjustments, and denials accurately in the billing system.
- Reconcile electronic remittance advice (ERA) and paper explanation of benefits (EOB) with payments received.
- Ensure payments are applied to the correct accounts, charges, and services.
- Accurately post payer adjustments and write-offs based on contractual agreements.
- Flag denied claims for review and escalate trends in underpayments or denials.
- Perform daily reconciliation of posted payments and adjustments to ensure accuracy.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in payment postings or account balances.
- Collaborate with AR, billing, and collections teams to resolve payment discrepancies.
- Assist in providing payment-related data for audits, appeals, or patient inquiries.
- Maintain accurate documentation of payment postings and adjustments.
- Stay updated on payer policies and industry standards impacting payment processing.
Requirements
Performance/Skills Requirements:
- Payment Processing Expertise: Knowledge of EOBs, ERAs, and payer-specific payment policies.
- Analytical Thinking: Ability to identify and resolve discrepancies efficiently.
- Communication Excellence: Strong verbal and written communication skills for working with internal teams and external payers.
- Technical Proficiency: Experience with NextGen and payment posting tools.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to ensure high accuracy in financial transactions.
Education/Certifications/Experience
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Accounting, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in medical billing, payment posting, or healthcare accounts receivable.
- Certification in medical billing or coding (e.g., CPC, CCA) is a plus.
- Experience with automated payment posting systems and payer portals.
- Knowledge of financial reconciliation processes in healthcare settings.

- Compensation for this role will be $20.95 – $24.02 based on experience and qualifications.
