Position Summary

Post payments to patient accounts; key and verify insurance and patient payments in a timely and accurate manner. Identify, research, and process all unidentified payments. Identify and report to supervisor any payment problems or discrepancies. This position is responsible for maintaining ambulatory surgery center (ASC) medical and billing records to ensure coding and operations compliance.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Post all insurance, virtual credit cards, upfront payments, and personal payments to patient accounts accurately and balance all checks in imaging workflow environment.
  • Verify and write-off any non-allowed charges billed to participating payers. Verify the patient responsibility.
  • Reconcile all the daily deposits to the posted amounts and resolve the discrepancies by the department’s monthly deadline.
  • Post all rejections from insurance companies that are the Posting Department’s responsibility.
  • Facilitate refunds for all overpaid accounts, unidentified and misdirected payments.
  • Process ERA and EFT enrollments, corrections, and cancellations.
  • Maintain updated W-9’s and bank letter requests.
  • Review invoice accuracy, maintain order and records.
  • Relieve and post the suspended payments and balance them within 3 days of distribution.
  • Review, verify and process all Accounts Receivable and Patient Services request for write offs and account adjustments.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Reads and abides by the company’s code of conduct, ethics statements, employee handbook(s), policies and procedures and other corporate mandates, including participation in mandatory training programs
  • Reports any real or suspected violation of the corporate compliance program, company policies and procedures, harassment, or other prohibited activities in accordance with the reporting policies of the company
  • Obtains clarification of policy whenever necessary and may use the resources available through the Compliance, Human Resources or Legal Department to do so

Position Qualifications

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Associates or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Four years’ experience as a Payment Posting Representative, or similar and well experienced in all facets of area of responsibility, in a medical billing office
