The Village of Schaumburg is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Water Billing Clerk to join its Finance Department. This position plays an important role in maintaining accurate water billing operations, supporting residents with billing inquiries, and ensuring account information is properly managed within the utility billing system.
The successful candidate will work closely with customers, analyze water consumption data, process billing activities, and assist with various customer service and administrative functions. Key Responsibilities:
• Compile, maintain, and update water billing databases and customer account records.
• Process and verify daily payments from multiple sources.
• Run monthly billing cycles, penalties, and shut-off procedures.
• Review actual and estimated water meter readings to calculate customer charges.
• Process account transfers, billing adjustments, refunds, and payment arrangements.
• Respond to customer inquiries regarding billing, water usage, final bills, and account-related concerns.
• Investigate issues, schedule service requests, and generate work orders in coordination with field staff.
• Maintain water shutoff records and service order documentation.
• Support departmental and interdepartmental projects as assigned.
• Perform additional administrative and customer service duties as required.
Requirements:
• High school diploma or equivalent education.
• Minimum one year of experience in a customer service-related role.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate and resolve customer concerns.
