Description:
Abacus Group is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Staff Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, performing account reconciliations, supporting month-end close processes, and assisting with audits and reporting. This position provides a vital role in ensuring financial integrity and efficiency across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in managing the monthly close and posting journal entries
- Perform balance sheet account reconciliations and maintain schedules
- Identify and communicate general ledger and accounting issues proactively
- Research and resolve reconciling items during the reconciliation process
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable activities
- Review P&L and make necessary GL coding updates
- Update and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Assist with special projects, ad hoc reporting, and financial analysis
- Propose and implement process improvements for greater efficiency
- Prepare non-standard reports and financial statements as needed
- Provide information for the annual audit and cross-train in various accounting functions
- Analyze financial transactions, identify cost-saving opportunities, and make day-to-day accounting decisions within delegated authority
- Support budgeting, financial planning, and analysis initiatives
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong understanding of revenue recognition, US GAAP, and accounting policies
- Month-end close and balance sheet reconciliation experience
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
- Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics – Business Central or similar accounting systems preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation and documentation abilities
- Excellent time management, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships
- Maintains professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively with a team
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a Staff Accountant role
