Description:
Scion Staffing is seeking a skilled Staff Accountant on a contract-to-hire basis to support a nonprofit organization. This role is fully remote, with preference given to candidates located in the DC Metro area. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for ensuring accurate financial records, managing accounts payable, reconciling online donations, and supporting month-end and year-end reporting. This position offers exposure to cross-functional projects and opportunities for process improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
• Process daily financial transactions, maintain accurate records, and perform account reconciliations
• Manage accounts payable, including vendor setup, invoice processing, and payment support
• Support month-end and year-end activities, including journal entries and audit preparation
• Maintain and improve accounting systems, recommending process enhancements
• Collaborate with Development, HR, and external accounting teams to ensure financial accuracy
• Participate in cross-functional initiatives, special projects, and organizational planning
Qualifications:
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and GAAP
• Advanced Excel skills with strong attention to detail
• Proficiency in accounting software and payment platforms
• Ability to work collaboratively with strong organizational and communication skills
