About the Role:
Twilio is seeking a talented Software Engineer to join its Voice Trust team, focused on ensuring reliable voice communication for Twilio’s customers. This role participates in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, technical design, coding, testing, deployment, and ongoing service operation. You will work in a distributed production environment, utilizing Agile methodologies to deliver scalable, high-performance solutions. The position is remote-based in the USA, with occasional travel for project or team meetings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of designing and implementing real-time services with high throughput and low latency
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand customer needs and deliver robust, scalable solutions
- Document technical designs and ideas clearly to communicate with leads, architects, and cross-functional teams
- Solve complex problems related to distributed systems, global points of presence, and media fidelity
- Innovate ways to improve customer experiences for Twilio’s Voice platform
- Participate in on-call rotations, incident response, and service monitoring using tools like Prometheus, Datadog, and Grafana
Required Qualifications:
- 2–3+ years of hands-on experience with JVM-based distributed applications
- Expertise in building RESTful services, API design, and event-driven architectures (Kafka, SQS)
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and cloud infrastructures (AWS, GCP, OpenStack, Azure)
- Experience in on-call rotations, incident response, and monitoring/alerting systems
- Strong Java fundamentals and ability to review, debug, and architect code
- Proficiency using AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor) and evaluating AI-generated code for correctness, security, and performance
- Excellent written communication for technical documentation and collaboration
- Solid Computer Science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed systems
- Team-oriented, highly motivated, and able to thrive in a collaborative environment
Desired Qualifications:
- Proven experience scaling production backend systems and horizontally scalable architectures
- Knowledge of SQL/NoSQL databases, caching technologies, SIP protocol, and Stir/Shaken protocol
- Demonstrated ability to leverage AI tools to increase coding productivity
Compensation & Benefits:
- Base salary: $114,600 – $168,500 depending on location
