SOCIAL MEDIA ASSOCIATE

Experience Camps is a national nonprofit that transforms the lives of grieving children through no-cost summer camps, year-round programs, and a culture-shifting movement to normalize childhood grief. Our vision is a world where every grieving child has the support they need to thrive.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Social Media Associate will be responsible for planning, creating, and posting engaging content that raises awareness of childhood grief, which impacts millions of kids. Experience Camps’ social media channels have reached over 80 million people and garnered the attention of celebrities, brands, and influencers. The ideal candidate will have experience with brand storytelling, community management, content creation, and have top-notch graphic design and video editing skills. While the topic is heavy, our work involves helping grieving kids rediscover joy and build resilience.

Responsibilities

The following is not intended to be an exhaustive list. Other responsibilities and duties may be assigned:

CONTENT CREATION & STRATEGY

  • Develop compelling, platform-specific content and fresh content ideas that resonate with our audiences across all social platforms, including Experience Camps and our teen-focused initiative, GRIEF SUCKS.
  • Maintain a consistent brand voice and tone appropriate to each audience (parents, professionals, teens, donors), ensuring all messaging aligns with organizational goals and mission.
  • Monitor trends, pop culture, and current events to produce timely and relevant social media content, especially for teen engagement through GRIEF SUCKS.
  • Manage our Youth Advisory Board teens to gather ideas and assign videos monthly

SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGEMENT

  • Oversee daily management of social media accounts for both Experience Camps (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok) and GRIEF SUCKS (Instagram, TikTok).
  • Schedule, publish, and monitor content across all platforms, ensuring timely and consistent posting.
  • Respond to comments and direct messages in a manner that is empathetic, engaging, and aligned with the organization’s values.

CROSS-DEPARTMENT COLLABORATION

  • Coordinate with internal departments (Development, Programming, Communications, etc.) to gather, schedule, and promote department-specific content.
  • Develop and manage a centralized, organization-wide content calendar to ensure alignment and strategic timing of all social content.

VISUAL & MULTIMEDIA PRODUCTION

  • Design and produce eye-catching graphics for Instagram and Facebook that adhere to brand guidelines and visual identity standards.
  • Shoot, edit, and publish engaging short-form videos for our brands, tailored to the unique style and preferences of each platform’s audience.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT & INFLUENCER OUTREACH

  • Identify relevant influencers and content creators who align with our mission to explore potential partnerships or content collaborations.
  • Actively engage with brands and influencers to build relationships, secure donations, do content swaps, collaborations, and more.

ANALYTICS AND REPORTING

  • Track, analyze, and report on key social media metrics monthly to assess performance, identify trends, and inform content strategy.
  • Make data-driven recommendations for improving engagement, reach, and follower growth.

ON-SITE CONTENT COLLECTION

  • Travel to and attend at least two of our summer camp locations during the August season to capture photos, videos, and live content that showcases the impact of Experience Camps and fuels future storytelling.

Expectations Compensation, And Benefits

  • 40 hours/week with flexible hours to account for occasional calls and meetings in the evenings.
  • Ability to be productive in a remote work environment.
  • Occasional travel during the year for events and meetings (approx. 6-8),
  • Ability for on-site travel during the weeks of camp programs.
  • Willingness to be a team player
  • Annual base salary range: $60,000 – $65,000, commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of marketing/media experience
  • Bachelor’s or equivalent experience in marketing, media, influencer marketing, PR, communications, or a related field
  • Strong written, verbal, and organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Passionate about social media and current trends
  • Proven success with social media strategy, content creation, and influencer marketing
  • Graphic design skills and social media platform expertise
  • Working self-sufficiently in a remote working environment.
  • Passion for Experience Camps’ mission and values.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
