The Senior Staff Accountant will be a core member of Toptal’s Finance team, reporting to the Director of Accounting. This role involves month-end and year-end closing activities across multiple entities, including consolidation work. You will also support day-to-day accounting functions, operational tasks, and assist with audits and regulatory filings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with month-end and year-end accounting close, journal entries, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Support consolidation activities, including intercompany reconciliations and journal entries.
- Contribute to quote-to-cash processes, process improvements, and adherence to internal controls.
- Help develop and document accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Support process automation and improvement initiatives within the accounting function.
- Assist with audits and regulatory filings as needed.
- Handle vendor payments, wire submissions, and other operational accounting tasks.
- Maintain strong cross-functional relationships and a collaborative work environment.
- Participate in ad-hoc projects assigned by the Director of Accounting.
Onboarding Expectations:
- First week: Learn Toptal’s remote environment and internal tools, understand trial balance account structure, and meet Finance team stakeholders including the CFO.
- First month: Assist with monthly close, reconciliations, GL postings, and begin identifying process improvement opportunities.
- First three months: Take ownership of recurring reconciliations and journal entries, support consolidation and integration of new entities.
- First six months: Execute responsibilities independently and contribute to strategic projects.
- First year: Fully integrate into Finance team, contributing across initiatives and supporting cross-functional projects.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP and general accounting principles.
- Experience with multi-entity accounting, FX, and consolidation preferred.
- Hands-on ERP experience; Intacct is a plus.
- Knowledge of US and international tax, and M&A accounting a plus.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical abilities.
- Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growing environment and manage diverse challenges.
- Must be an exceptional individual contributor, capable of working independently.
