Description:
The College Board is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Observability Engineering team, fully remote while working core EST hours. Our team builds solutions that enhance the observability of applications, services, pipelines, and processes, helping development teams deliver exceptional experiences for millions of students and thousands of schools and colleges. This role combines creativity, technical expertise, and collaboration to improve user experience, data analytics, and developer productivity.

Key Responsibilities:

Design & Implementation (70%)

  • Design, develop, test, implement, and document solutions for full stack applications using React, TypeScript, and Node.js
  • Provide visualizations to monitor end-user experience and generate high-quality alerts
  • Continuously improve skills for agile, poly-skilled team collaboration
  • Apply expertise in cloud networking, API integrations, infrastructure resiliency, and cloud design
  • Automate infrastructure lifecycle, create internal tools using IaC and CLIs
  • Collaborate with domain SMEs to analyze features and capabilities
  • Align architectures and cloud offerings with business objectives
  • Contribute to Cloud Engineering Program through thought leadership, design, and implementation
  • Participate in Enterprise Architecture Review processes

Strategy & Communication (20%)

  • Implement cloud-first architecture and best practices
  • Contribute to technology strategy, research emerging technologies, and recommend solutions for cost-effectiveness and flexibility
  • Participate in agile scrum ceremonies and team deliverables
  • Conduct peer reviews and assist in resolving production issues

Team Coordination (10%)

  • Mentor team members and develop training materials for infrastructure, technology implementations, and software development practices
  • Create and maintain supporting material for team backup coverage

Qualifications:

  • Strong experience with distributed cloud infrastructure and AWS resources (Lambda, SNS, SQS, S3, Step Functions, EC2, ECS, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, DynamoDB)
  • Experience building event-driven, serverless cloud applications
  • Expertise with Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD frameworks, automation, orchestration, and DevOps patterns
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize and deliver in high-pressure environments

Additional Nice-to-Have:

  • API or back-end service development experience
  • Familiarity with Grafana or similar visualization tools
