The Global Monitoring Service (GMS) App Team is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to manage and optimize container-based applications, CI/CD pipelines, and deployments for defense and intelligence customer applications built atop Planet’s satellite data. This role demands strong expertise in DevOps, infrastructure, and cloud-native operations, with responsibilities including application lifecycle management, migrations, Kubernetes deployments, security compliance, and monitoring complex distributed systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own the containerized application lifecycle, bi-weekly releases, and CI/CD pipelines for GMS.
  • Manage deployments on customer-isolated Kubernetes clusters with persistent storage, infrastructure-as-code, and secure environments.
  • Monitor service availability and performance to meet strict SLAs and SLOs; participate in 24×7 on-call rotation.
  • Debug and resolve complex issues rapidly for customers or internal monitoring alerts.
  • Implement authentication for GMS resources and support customer-facing teams with full-stack expertise.
  • Manage Terraform deployments for data pipelines and ensure operational excellence.

Requirements:

  • 6+ years of software engineering experience focusing on infrastructure or DevOps.
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, stateful applications, persistent storage, and node pool isolation.
  • Expertise in CI/CD pipelines, Makefiles, manifests, and cloud-native security best practices.
  • Ability to monitor and maintain complex distributed systems while meeting strict SLAs.
  • Experience in secured customer deployments and readiness to collaborate across time zones.
  • Strong ownership mentality and independence over full deployment lifecycles.
  • Experience managing data pipelines, particularly with dbt.

Preferred Qualifications / Standouts:

  • Experience with Defense & Intelligence customers.
  • Familiarity with SQL/noSQL data stores, Google Cloud Platform, Grafana, Kubernetes CRDs, and open-source contributions.
  • Exposure to front-end development and professional services/customer-facing deployments.
