About the Role:
Vultr is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Cloud Networking to help architect and lead the evolution of its global cloud networking platform. This is a hands-on, cross-functional role focused on designing and building secure, scalable, and high-performance networking services that form the backbone of Vultr’s cloud infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design next-generation cloud networking features including VPCs, security groups, gateways, and routing domains
- Lead implementation of control plane and data plane networking capabilities
- Develop and manage services such as BGP peering, tenant isolation, and network policy enforcement
- Prototype, test, and validate new networking features at scale
- Support live production systems and participate in incident response activities
- Extend and enhance Vultr’s control plane to support advanced networking integrations
Qualifications & Technical Skills:
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in infrastructure, hosting, or network engineering environments
- Strong background in virtual networking across public or private cloud platforms
- Hands-on experience with SDN technologies, VXLAN/EVPN, and modern networking architectures
- Solid understanding of BGP, Layer 2/Layer 3 routing, Linux networking, and Kubernetes networking
- Experience with network automation, monitoring, and observability tools
- Proficiency in Go or Rust; familiarity with PHP and SQL is a plus
- Exposure to high-performance networking hardware such as SmartNICs, DPUs, or Broadcom platforms
- Experience modernizing legacy systems and working in multi-tenant or network security environments
- Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate with engineering and leadership teams
