As a Senior Software Engineer – Backend, you will join a high-performing and collaborative engineering team that works closely with product managers and designers to deliver meaningful impact for local communities. The Impact You’ll Make:
• Contribute across the backend engineering stack, including frameworks and core services
• Design, build, and enhance scalable backend systems that support Nextdoor’s platform
• Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and engineering leaders to shape features and roadmaps
• Participate in defining new product ideas, planning delivery timelines, and evaluating feature impact through data analysis
• Grow your role over time based on your interests and technical strengths
Your Responsibilities Will Include:
• Backend development using technologies such as:
– Python / Django
– Kotlin / JVM
– Go
– SQL

• Mentoring and supporting a team of talented engineers
• Working closely with product, design, and data teams to maximize value for users
• Collaborating with engineers across multiple locations including Toronto, New York, and San Francisco

• Contributing to and strengthening Nextdoor’s engineering culture and values
What You’ll Bring to the Team:
• 6+ years of experience as a Software Engineer
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
• Ability to lead technically and drive engineering vision
• Strong coding, debugging, and system design skills across complex systems
• Experience building and operating scalable backend services
• Curiosity and enthusiasm for learning new technologies and systems
