As a Senior Political Data Scientist, you will play a critical role in helping independent candidates across the United States run smarter campaigns, win elections, and better serve their communities. This role sits at the intersection of data science, political research, and product innovation within a fully remote, fast-growing startup environment.
Founded by experienced entrepreneur Farhad Mohit, GoodParty.org operates as both a platform and a movement—empowering independent candidates with AI-powered tools, training, and data insights. Since 2024, more than 13,000 independent candidates have successfully won elections using the organization’s technology and support systems.
In this senior-level role, you will design, develop, and continuously improve quantitative models that analyze voter behavior, electoral outcomes, and public opinion. Your work will directly influence how candidates understand their constituencies, prioritize community needs, and measure success once in office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build, test, and enhance predictive and inferential models related to voter support, vote propensity, and pathways to electoral success
- Analyze public opinion data by collecting, imputing, and synthesizing multiple data sources to model constituencies at scale
- Design surveys and political field experiments to evaluate campaign strategies and governance outcomes
- Identify natural experiments within product usage, election results, and user data to generate actionable insights
- Improve accuracy and reliability of electoral and public service outcome measurements
- Expand and optimize national datasets related to campaigns, elections, voting behavior, and candidate identification
- Collaborate closely with engineering, product, and operations teams to integrate models into scalable data pipelines
- Apply political data science best practices to improve candidate-facing tools and internal analytics systems
- Operate independently as a senior contributor within a small research team, driving measurable improvements week over week
- Report directly to the Research Director
Required Background:
- Strong experience applying data science, statistics, or computational methods to political or social data
- Hands-on work with surveys, public opinion research, or behavioral datasets
- Experience with causal inference, forecasting, experiments, or predictive modeling in political contexts
- Familiarity with U.S. election data and comfort working with complex, real-world datasets
- Proficiency in statistical programming (R or Python), SQL, and exposure to AI/ML applications in research
- Ability to scope research questions, select appropriate methodologies, and deliver iterative results independently
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting elected officials, campaigns, or government agencies through data-driven work
- Leadership in designing or implementing real-world field experiments
- Ability to translate research concepts into scalable product features or prototypes
- Academic or practical involvement in politics, civics, or democracy reform initiatives
