About the Role:
We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our Space Communications team. In this role, you will contribute to the development of mission planning and command-and-control software for U.S. government satellites. You will build modern, resilient backend services and platforms, guiding both technical strategy and implementation. This position allows you to serve as both an individual contributor and mentor for junior engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and scale multi-tenant services on public cloud platforms, primarily AWS
- Architect, build, and consume APIs and backend services within the platform ecosystem, emphasizing automation, testing, and security
- Advocate for improvements in product quality, performance, and security across teams
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers
- Collaborate with customers and partners to integrate and utilize Sphinx services
- Solve complex challenges in space communications and scale core services
Qualifications & Skills:
- 5+ years of software engineering experience with increasing responsibility
- Strong proficiency in Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform
- Deep knowledge of at least one commercial cloud platform and its services
- Experience leading architecture and development of backend services and APIs ensuring reliability, security, and performance
- Proven ability to own technical problems end-to-end
- Excellent communication skills and experience working directly with end-users to design and implement solutions
- Self-directed learner, adaptable to fast-paced and evolving environments
Additional Information:
- Fully remote role; work must be completed in the United States
- Occasional travel may be required for client visits, company gatherings, or project-related activities
Compensation & Benefits:
- Base salary: $160,000 – $185,000 USD
