About the Role:
Sphinx is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Space Communications team. You will develop the next generation of mission planning, command, and control software for US government satellites. This role combines hands-on development with technical leadership responsibilities, guiding junior engineers and influencing architectural decisions across the platform.
Key Responsibilities:
• Build multi-tenant backend services on cloud platforms such as AWS.
• Design, develop, and consume APIs and backend services with focus on automation, security, and testing.
• Advocate for improvements in product quality, performance, and security.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance.
• Collaborate with customers and partners to integrate with Sphinx services.
• Scale services and solve complex challenges in space communications.
Skills and Experience:
• 5+ years of progressively responsible software engineering experience.
• Strong expertise in Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform.
• Demonstrable experience with commercial cloud platforms and their services.
• Proven ability to architect, develop, and deploy backend services and APIs with high reliability and security.
• Experience taking ownership of technical problems end-to-end.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work with end-users to deliver effective solutions.
• Self-directed learner, adaptable to a fast-paced environment.
Location & Travel:
This is a fully remote position for candidates based in the United States. Occasional travel may be required for client visits, company gatherings, or project-related events.
Compensation & Benefits:
• Base salary: $160,000 – $185,000
