Role Overview:
We are seeking a Senior Analytics Engineer to lead, evolve, and scale Trellis’ analytics foundation. This position ensures that our product, data science, and agency teams have fast, accurate, and reliable data to support decision-making and experimentation. The role requires strong ownership of analytics, advanced technical skills in data modeling and tooling, and the ability to balance speed, quality, and scalability. You will report directly to Jaren Carlson, Head of Analytics Engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
- Model complex business processes in data, designing and refining data models that reflect product and agency operations
- Build and maintain data quality checks and alerting systems to quickly identify inconsistencies and resolve issues
- Ensure fast, reliable analytics by optimizing query performance and warehouse efficiency while controlling costs
- Collaborate with data science, product, and engineering teams to produce and consume impactful data that supports development, experimentation, and operational decision-making
- Streamline data development workflows and implement best practices across tools like Looker and DBT
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in data, with 3+ years owning data modeling (Analytics Engineer or Data Engineer)
- Expert in SQL, able to write efficient, production-grade queries
- Deep expertise in DBT, including macros, packages, source freshness, incremental builds, and custom tests
- LookML development and ownership experience
- Ability to translate complex business concepts into actionable data models
- High autonomy, self-starter, capable of operating in a fast-paced, scrappy startup environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for internal and external stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with BigQuery
- Proficiency in Python or TypeScript for scripting and data manipulation
- Hands-on experience with data orchestration tools such as Prefect or Airflow
- Ability to guide responsible adoption of AI in the data ecosystem
