Description:
SmithGroup, an integrated design firm known for its award-winning and innovative solutions, is seeking a Project Accountant to join our team. Our firm blends research, data, and creativity to design resilient, inclusive spaces across healthcare, science, technology, higher education, cultural, waterfront, parks, urban environments, and more. We are looking for a detail-oriented professional to support project accounting and financial management from inception through completion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in setting up and maintaining project budgets and client billing information, including client billing tables, in project accounting systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics)
- Collaborate with studio leaders, project managers, and project accountant supervisors to prepare client invoices and supporting documentation
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with project managers throughout each project lifecycle
- Reconcile and maintain client contracts, billing files, and consultant invoices electronically
- Apply client payments and assist in resolving payment discrepancies
- Support studio leaders or project managers with collections
- Coordinate with accounts payable to process consultant payments
- Provide assistance in preparing management reports, monthly project reviews, and audit deliverables
- File and retrieve electronic invoices and statements within a paperless accounting system
- Assist in other accounting areas as needed
Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience with accounting software, preferably Microsoft Dynamics
- Familiarity with accounting policies and procedures
- High proficiency in Excel, Adobe Acrobat, SharePoint, and Outlook
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills
- Experience handling complex client invoicing, including consultant invoices and employee expense reports
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Experience in accounting for architectural, engineering, or construction firms preferred
- Experience working with auditors or performing monthly project financial reviews is a plus
