We are hiring a Payroll Specialist to help deliver accurate, compliant, and timely payroll services to our PEO clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Compile payroll inputs and billing records while supporting clients and their worksite employees.
  • Prepare and process payroll runs electronically and issue payments in line with PEO guidelines.
  • Calculate payroll elements for assigned clients (gross pay, per diems, reimbursements, advances, taxes, benefits, garnishments, time records).
  • Record payroll-affecting changes such as exemptions, benefit elections, direct deposit setups, special withholdings, and terminations.
  • Maintain accurate client data in the payroll system, including demographic updates, benefit deductions, and custom reporting schedules.
  • Review new-hire and employee-change documentation and coordinate with clients to ensure payroll accuracy and compliance.
  • Train and assist clients on payroll portals and educate them on federal/state tax requirements and labor laws.
  • Collaborate with internal payroll teams and field client-service staff to resolve client issues and document outcomes.
  • Stay informed on payroll system updates and changes in wage and tax law to support problem resolution.
  • Understand the full suite of PEO services to assist clients with general inquiries and ensure adherence to PEO policies.
  • Maintain strong client relationships, proactively raise observations to management, and support job costing where applicable.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that support the role’s objectives.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate or BA preferred.
  • At least 1 year of multi-state payroll experience; 6+ months PEO experience highly preferred.
  • Experience with Prism is highly preferred; 10-key experience preferred.
  • FPC certification preferred.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office; advanced Excel ability is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work independently in a remote/distributed team.
  • Candidates who can support a West Coast (PST) schedule are preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
