Coursera, a global leader in online learning, is seeking a skilled Payroll Specialist to join our finance team. This role focuses on ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing for employees in the United States and Canada, while delivering excellent service to employees and supporting financial operations. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of end-to-end payroll processes, is detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process semi-monthly payrolls for US and Canadian employees, including timesheets, garnishments, benefits, taxes, and variable payments while ensuring legal compliance.
- Manage stock-based compensation transactions, including ESPP, NQSOs, ISOs, and RSUs.
- Audit payroll records and maintain accurate documentation of all payroll activities.
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, and taxes in a professional and timely manner.
- Collaborate with People Operations, Equity, Accounting, and Legal teams on payroll administration, benefits, taxation, and year-end reporting.
- Support month-end close, annual audits, and payroll-related projects, including year-end reporting preparation.
- Coordinate international payroll processes with external vendors.
Basic Qualifications:
- 3+ years of payroll experience with end-to-end processing, preferably using Workday Payroll.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations and wage/hour laws.
- Payroll experience in a public company with stock plans and SOX compliance.
- Proficient in Excel for data analysis, including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities independently in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or equivalent certification.
- Experience with Workday Payroll, ADP SmartCompliance, EY Payroll Operate.
- Experience with NetSuite, Fidelity, or other ERP/equity platforms.
