Description:
Join Valera Health as a part-time Patient Billing Specialist and play a key role in keeping our billing operations accurate and timely. You will focus on resolving claim/payment issues, following up on outstanding receivables, and helping patients and payers close open balances — all while contributing to a compassionate tele-mental-health organization that values accessibility and quality care.
- Review claims for accuracy, correct billing errors, and reprocess claims when necessary.
- Monitor accounts receivable and manage outstanding balances through payer and patient follow-up.
- Answer patient and insurance calls with professional, empathetic service; document interactions and resolutions clearly.
- Work through follow-up claim queues and phone queues to meet productivity and quality goals.
- Track information requests from payers, providers, and patients; escalate or coordinate with internal teams as required.
- Maintain accurate records of billing actions and ensure timely documentation to support collections and audit trails.
- Meet supervisor-set targets for error-free work, transaction quality, and compliance with internal processes.
Qualifications & skills:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in medical billing, with strong AR follow-up and appeals background.
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate Degree or CPB certification preferred.
- Experience with healthcare collections and familiarity with practice management or EHR systems (experience with NextGen is a plus).
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills; ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable interacting with patients, payers, and clinical teams.
- Mental health billing experience is advantageous but not required.
- Self-motivated, mission-aligned, and able to work efficiently in a remote environment.
