As an Operations Tax Specialist, you will partner closely with management to transform tax operations from manual, reactive processes to automated, data-driven workflows. You will serve as a trusted advisor, identifying strategic priorities, mitigating risks, and providing actionable insights.

Key Responsibilities:

Process Transformation:

  • Map and analyze current tax processes to identify compliance risks and manual points
  • Lead workflow improvements and implement data-driven solutions
  • Evaluate system capabilities and IRS compliance gaps
  • Develop and implement SOPs, templates, and standardized workflows

Compliance & Risk Management:

  • Track penalty exposure metrics and recommend mitigation strategies
  • Participate in control reviews and execute process improvement initiatives
  • Stay up to date with IRS updates and annual tax regulations
  • Document end-to-end tax processes and maintain centralized knowledge repositories

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Act as liaison between management and internal teams on tax matters
  • Provide timely escalation and feedback on risks and opportunities
  • Support strategic planning with data-driven insights
  • Coordinate with third-party vendors and stakeholders to gather data or complete tasks

Continuous Improvement & Training:

  • Embed frameworks supporting ongoing process enhancements
  • Maintain metrics logs to track improvements and achievements
  • Support training for new processes, IRS updates, and knowledge sharing

Required Qualifications:

  • Understanding of IRS tax forms and regulations
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
  • Analytical thinking and resourcefulness
  • Familiarity with IRS website, Publication 1220, and tax laws
  • Adaptability to new technology and processes

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or tax reporting software (e.g., SOVOS)
  • Ability to communicate complex tax concepts to non-tax professionals
  • Familiarity with Equitable products and systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication, detail-oriented, deadline-driven
  • Proactive problem-solving, accountability, and collaborative mindset
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain urgency
