The Market Development Specialist role is designed for an experienced energy market professional who can analyze complex electricity market structures, evaluate new market opportunities, and lead cross-functional initiatives for market expansion and program launches. This position plays a key role in shaping how Leap enters and scales within new energy markets.
Key Responsibilities:
• Research and evaluate wholesale electricity markets, demand response programs, and utility frameworks
• Identify and assess new market entry opportunities for virtual power plant expansion
• Analyze complex energy policies, regulatory structures, and market rules
• Translate technical energy market data into clear insights for internal and external stakeholders
• Lead cross-functional coordination for launching new markets and programs
• Collaborate with product, engineering, policy, and operations teams to execute market expansion strategies
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring timely delivery and alignment
• Support development of scalable processes for energy market participation
• Communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders across technical and business teams
• Contribute to strategic planning for distributed energy resource integration
Requirements:
• 3–5 years of experience in wholesale electricity markets, demand response, utility programs, or distributed energy resources
• Strong understanding of energy policy, electricity market structures, and grid operations
• Experience working with North American, European, UK, or Japan electricity markets preferred
• Proven ability to analyze complex regulatory and market frameworks
• Strong project management and cross-functional coordination experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently in a remote and distributed team environment
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Comfortable working across time zones and managing asynchronous communication
• Problem-solving mindset with ability to drive consensus across teams
