Description:
Overview:
Ryder is seeking a seasoned Finance Manager to join the Data Analytics Center of Excellence and lead predictive modeling for the company’s fleet maintenance spend (approximately $1B annually). This role blends advanced analytics, financial modelling, and cross-functional partnership with Operations to forecast maintenance costs, explain cost drivers, and translate model outputs into actionable recommendations for the business.
Essential Functions:
• Build and maintain predictive models (R or Python) that forecast variable fleet maintenance costs for the remainder of the year and the upcoming year — models must be explainable and show which factors drive cost changes.
• Rapidly update predictions as fleet and operational data change; compare new model results to previous forecasts and load updated figures into Adaptive/Workday.
• Produce monthly actual vs. plan variance analyses that identify drivers behind cost deviations and recommend operational actions to improve outcomes.
• Ensure meticulous validation when loading plan and forecast numbers into Adaptive/Workday, confirming accuracy through multiple layers of review.
• Prepare executive-ready summaries and variance analysis for quarterly sign-off presentations.
• Mine large datasets using SQL to surface trends, root causes, and profit-impacting relationships; propose data-driven actions to partners.
• Promote data literacy and the use of decision science across the organization; contribute as a subject matter expert on data and predictive analytics.
• Operate with intellectual curiosity—challenge assumptions, explore anomalies, and pursue continuous improvement opportunities.
Additional Responsibilities:
• Develop ad-hoc analyses and reports requested by leadership.
• Partner with business leaders to design decision-science strategies and analytical models.
• Support transformation initiatives, reporting enhancements, and project management as needed.
Skills & Tools:
• Advanced proficiency in SQL and strong experience with R or Python for statistical modelling.
• Deep financial modelling skills and an ability to explain how business actions impact financial statements.
• Strong Excel capabilities; experience with Adaptive Insights and Workday Financials is a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Proven ability to drive results using data-driven insights and to influence senior stakeholders.
Qualifications & Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; Master’s or MBA preferred.
• Minimum of ten (10) years in finance or accounting; transportation/logistics experience preferred.
• At least four (4) years of people management or leadership experience.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment and meet tight deadlines.
• Willingness to support occasional on-site visits as required.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States (Ryder does not provide visa sponsorship for this role).
Compensation & Benefits:
• Salary range shown above; eligibility for annual bonus and other incentives per role level.
• Comprehensive benefits including medical, prescription, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, paid time off, parental leave, and a 401(k) retirement plan.
• Professional development opportunities and a culture that supports work–life balance.
Additional Notes:
• This role is remote but requires working closely with cross-functional teams and occasionally visiting sites as needed.
