Position Overview:
The Manager, Data Science plays a critical leadership role within Paylocity’s Product and Technology organization. This position combines strong technical expertise with people leadership and project ownership, guiding teams to deliver impactful, machine-learning-powered features used by millions of employees.
The Data Science team focuses on building intelligent, ethical, and scalable ML solutions that enhance Paylocity’s HCM platform through insights, automation, and predictive analytics.

- Applying advanced NLP models to analyze employee sentiment and organizational engagement
- Building platform-wide recommendation systems to support HR best practices
- Embedding AI ethics as a core component of all machine learning initiatives
- Developing cutting-edge analytics solutions in a collaborative remote environment
- Continuously adopting modern data science tools, frameworks, and methodologies
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a team of data scientists delivering customer-facing machine learning solutions
- Oversee end-to-end ML systems, including data pipelines, infrastructure, model deployment, and monitoring
- Partner closely with Product Managers and UX Designers to transform ideas into production-ready ML features
- Mentor and coach team members to achieve high performance and career growth
- Drive execution of large-scale initiatives with cross-functional and company-wide impact
- Translate business challenges into data science problems and communicate outcomes to non-technical stakeholders
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline (required)
- 5+ years of data science experience within software-focused organizations
- 2+ years of direct people management experience
- Strong experience building and deploying production-grade ML models using Python
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, cloud-based source control, and modern development workflows
- Proven ability to lead high-performing teams and deliver measurable business outcomes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Skills:
- Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or related fields
- Experience in HR technology, social sciences, or psychology
- Passion for advanced analytics and predictive insights
- Commitment to continuous learning and adoption of new data science practices
