Are you an experienced payroll professional who thrives in dynamic, fast-paced environments? Dart Container is searching for a Lead Payroll Technician to join our growing team. This hybrid or fully remote position (depending on your location) offers the opportunity to apply your payroll knowledge and leadership abilities in a collaborative and mission-driven company.
You’ll be the main point of contact for complex payroll matters, guiding other Payroll Technicians, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely processing across multiple states. This position requires a deep understanding of payroll systems and labor regulations, with an emphasis on analytical thinking and confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities:
• Handle payroll support for employees, including entering preferences for deductions, direct deposits, and tax withholdings
• Respond to pay-related inquiries and manage W-2 form reprints
• Guide Payroll Technicians in resolving complicated issues, provide training, and monitor team workload
• Accurately calculate payroll corrections, process exceptions, and ensure appropriate authorization for on-demand checks
• Interpret court orders for garnishments and child support; interact with courts to resolve concerns
• Oversee centralized Friend of the Court (FOC) programs and troubleshoot system interface issues
• Collaborate with internal departments to address and resolve payroll-related concerns
• Manage data flow through system interfaces and ensure accurate payroll calculations (from gross wages to taxes and general ledger entries)
• Reconcile payroll balances, analyze discrepancies, and ensure compliance with internal controls
• Handle sensitive payroll data while adhering to strict confidentiality standards
• Participate in system testing for tax updates and new pay schedules
• Contribute to the generation and distribution of year-end W-2 forms
• Perform leadership duties in alignment with departmental goals and timelines
Leadership Responsibilities:
• May supervise or provide functional guidance to other payroll staff
Required Qualifications and Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• At least 2 years of progressive payroll experience using an ERP system in a large, multi-state setting
• Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience with SAP payroll or similar platforms
• In-depth understanding of payroll functionality and federal/state tax laws
• Demonstrated ability to work with mathematical data (percentages, ratios, averages, etc.)
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
• Ability to communicate clearly with both internal and external stakeholders
• Able to manage tasks independently in a remote or hybrid environment
• Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize competing tasks
• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications:
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business, HR, IT, or related field
• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC)
• Experience with in-house payroll processing systems
• Familiarity with managing multi-state child support and garnishment processing
• Advanced payroll knowledge and exposure to accounting principles
