Commerce is seeking a talented Lead Infrastructure Engineer to join our Infrastructure Engineering team. This role is open for full-time remote work within U.S. time zones or from our Austin or San Francisco offices. As a Lead Infrastructure Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining the foundational technology stack that powers Commerce stores. You will combine software engineering skills with developer operations, collaborating closely with software engineers to enhance infrastructure reliability, automation, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
• Plan and implement initiatives to improve the stability, scalability, and reliability of database infrastructure
• Apply software engineering and SRE principles to create tools, services, and automation for complex infrastructure and service-oriented architectures
• Collaborate on platform-level initiatives to enhance engineering automation and efficiency across the organization
• Continuously evolve the observability of Commerce’s platform architecture, improving monitoring, performance, and reliability
• Take ownership of issues and projects, driving them to completion with a high degree of autonomy
• Participate in technical planning, design sessions, and the team’s on-call rotation
Requirements:
• 5+ years of experience building, operating, or supporting large-scale Linux-based service-oriented architectures; SQL systems expertise is a bonus
• Proficiency in UNIX system administration and programming languages such as Golang, Ruby, PHP, or Bash
• Hands-on experience with Docker and orchestration tools like Nomad (used at Commerce), Kubernetes, or Amazon ECS
• Familiarity with configuration management tools like Puppet (used at Commerce), Ansible, or Chef
• Experience with observability and APM tools such as Alertmanager, ELK, Prometheus, New Relic, Sentry, or Lightstep
• Strong interest in learning new technologies and programming languages
• Excellent communication skills for a geographically distributed team spanning Austin, San Francisco, Sydney, and remote
• Detail-oriented, with clean, well-documented, and maintainable systems and scripts
