As a Financial Verification Specialist reporting to the Financial Verification Manager, you will handle patient financial clearance inquiries via phone and other contact methods, verify benefits, ensure required authorizations are in place, and meet CHN’s established timeline standards. This role emphasizes providing excellent customer service, anticipating and meeting the needs of patients, and working collaboratively with colleagues to achieve high-quality and performance standards.
Essential Functions:
- Resolve consumer inquiries using critical thinking skills, including determining eligibility, providing price estimates, creating payment plans, addressing EOB inquiries, offering financial assistance, and resolving patient complaints
- Contact insurance companies via phone, fax, or online portals to obtain benefits, eligibility, and authorization information; update CHN systems accurately
- Communicate with CHN affiliates and call center partners regarding rescheduling due to authorization or benefits limitations approved by clinical personnel
- Meet or exceed audit accuracy and productivity goals set by CHN leadership
- Ensure integrity of patient accounts by addressing error reports and entering accurate data
- Document all benefits, authorizations, pre-certifications, and patient financial obligations thoroughly for insurance use
- Assist team with reports and projects to maintain productivity standards
- Monitor patient accounts for changes in insurance status and send updates for follow-up
- Maintain knowledge of online and system tools available
- Adhere to CHN policies, departmental procedures, and HIPAA regulations
- Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, federal, and accrediting standards
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and advance racial and health equity in all practices
Qualifications And Experience (Required):
- High school diploma or equivalent and at least two years of customer service experience
- Ability to multitask and work independently
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Flexible to work evenings and weekends
- Proficiency in Microsoft software (Excel, etc.)
- Customer-centric approach and excellent problem-solving skills
Qualifications And Experience (Preferred):
- Associate degree in a related field or equivalent experience
- One year of experience in patient financial services, patient access, or related areas
- Secondary language proficiency
