Description:
Stanford University is seeking an experienced Financial Manager to join the Dean’s Office of the School of Medicine. This critical role supports senior leadership, providing technical finance expertise and managing end-to-end financial operations including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, internal controls, labor schedules, purchase orders, and invoice approvals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all financial activities for senior stakeholders, including the Vice Dean, Senior Associate Deans, and Officers
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on complex financial and technical issues
  • Lead financial analyses for budgets, year-end projections, reconciliations, and ad hoc projects
  • Oversee the annual budget submission and management processes, including scenario planning for informed decision-making
  • Perform detailed reviews of financial data, develop solutions, and provide strategic recommendations to senior leadership
  • Support strategic presentations and consolidate data for high-level decision-making
  • Ensure proper stewardship of University resources, compliance with policies, and alignment with donor intent
  • Design and implement internal control systems and ensure adherence to compliance programs
  • Lead school-wide initiatives such as developing Business Expense Guidelines and complex financial agreements with hospitals
  • Continuously analyze systems and processes, recommending efficiency improvements and testing new tools and technologies
  • Establish procedures, policies, training, and standards to ensure financial systems and reporting tools are properly utilized
  • Coach and train administrative staff on policy and system changes
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications:

  • Technical finance knowledge and advanced accounting expertise within GAAP
  • Proficiency in Google Sheets and Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Familiarity with Oracle/OBI or other enterprise financial systems
  • Advanced analytical skills for reviewing and interpreting complex financial data
  • Understanding of fund accounting and medical school operations

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and eight years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Expert proficiency in business applications, including Microsoft Office
  • Advanced knowledge of ERP and financial systems
  • Strong professional communication skills for internal and external audiences
  • Advanced project management skills and ability to lead multi-functional teams
