Description:
Stanford University School of Medicine is seeking a highly skilled Financial Manager to support the Dean’s Office and central programs. This role is central to the School of Medicine’s operations, ensuring precise financial management and strategic support for senior leadership. The Financial Manager will oversee end-to-end finance functions including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, internal controls, labor management, and approvals of expenditures.

Key Responsibilities:


• Manage financial activities for senior stakeholders, including Vice Dean, Senior Associate Deans, Officers, and key leaders
• Serve as a subject matter expert on complex financial and technical matters
• Lead financial analyses for budgets, year-end projections, reconciliations, and ad hoc projects
• Oversee annual budget submission and ongoing budget management; perform scenario planning for informed decisions
• Conduct detailed analytical reviews, develop solutions, and provide recommendations to senior leadership
• Prepare strategic presentations and consolidate data for high-profile decision-making
• Ensure University funds are used appropriately, in compliance with policies and donor intent
• Design and maintain effective internal control systems and compliance programs
• Lead special projects impacting the School of Medicine, including development of Business Expense Guidelines
• Collaborate with hospitals to manage complex financial agreements
• Continuously analyze systems and processes to enhance efficiency and implement new tools or upgrades
• Develop procedures, training, and standards for compliance with University financial policies
• Coach and train administrative staff on system and policy changes
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills & Qualifications:


• Strong technical finance knowledge and understanding of GAAP
• Proficiency in Google Sheets, Microsoft Office (Excel), Oracle/OBI, and enterprise financial systems
• Advanced analytical skills to interpret complex financial information
• Knowledge of fund accounting and medical school operations
• Strong communication skills for internal and external stakeholders
• Advanced project management and leadership capabilities

Education & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree plus eight years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
