Description:
UMass Memorial Health is seeking a dedicated Financial Clearance Specialist to join their team remotely. This role focuses on ensuring accurate patient financial information, verifying insurance details, and collecting patient financial liabilities prior to services. The ideal candidate will possess strong attention to detail, prior healthcare experience, and a commitment to exceptional patient service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and verify patient demographic, financial, and insurance information for scheduled medical services.
- Collect co-pays, deductibles, coinsurances, and down payments.
- Provide financial estimates for services when appropriate.
- Manage patient financial liability for current and past balances prior to service.
- Contact insurance companies to verify eligibility and gather accurate billing information.
- Estimate patient financial responsibility and communicate clearly regarding liabilities.
- Process patient payments accurately.
- Ensure pre-certification, authorization, or referrals are in place before service.
- Refer patients to Financial Counselors or Business Office when needed.
- Reschedule appointments as directed based on financial circumstances or patient requests.
- Document financial clearance status clearly and concisely in the system.
- Follow and consistently apply all job-related policies, including the Financial Clearance Policy.
- Assess gaps in patient coverage to determine potential financial exposure.
- Adapt to changing priorities and perform other duties to ensure department operations run smoothly.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Four or more years of experience in a business office setting; healthcare environment experience is required.
- Knowledge of hospital computer systems and third-party collections is a plus.
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with business office applications.
- High attention to detail and ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
Schedule & Shift:
- Monday through Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm
- Day Shift, 8 hours, 40 hours per week
Additional Information:
- Non-Exempt position
