Description:
Boston University, a leading private research institution in Boston, Massachusetts, is seeking a highly skilled and collaborative Senior Financial Reporting Analyst to join its Office of Financial Operations. This role is essential in providing in-depth financial insights to support strategic decision-making across the university. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Financial Operations, the candidate will synthesize complex financial data, prepare detailed reports and presentations for senior leadership, and advise on financial planning initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Summarize ongoing cash flow projections and liquidity analyses, providing timely updates to senior leadership
- Manage and lead special projects, collaborating directly with academic and administrative units
- Coordinate with Financial Accounting & Reporting, Treasury, Budget, and other stakeholders to conduct scenario and sensitivity planning
- Develop, interpret, and summarize multi-dimensional financial analyses to inform budgeting, capital planning, and operational initiatives
- Respond promptly to ad hoc data requests and analytical needs from leadership
- Identify trends, risks, opportunities, and efficiencies in financial operations and university-wide initiatives
- Propose and implement improvements to reporting processes, tools, and data integration methods to enhance accuracy and efficiency
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or related field required; advanced degree (MBA) or professional certification (CPA/CFA) preferred
- 5–8 years of relevant experience, ideally within higher education or university finance
- Deep understanding of GAAP and other regulatory standards relevant to higher education
- Proficiency in creating board-level presentations and reporting packages (PowerPoint)
- Advanced analytical skills with experience in BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, and Excel
- Familiarity with ERP platforms like SAP and Campus Solutions is a plus
- Strong organizational, time management, and collaboration skills
- Ability to influence and coordinate across multiple functions without direct authority
