Description:
The University of Southern California (USC), with more than 140 years of academic excellence and tradition, is seeking a skilled and motivated Financial Analyst II to join its Finance Division within the Office of Budget and Planning. Reporting directly to the Assistant Vice President of Financial Planning, this role plays a critical part in supporting the university’s long-term capital planning and annual financial forecasting processes. The position provides broad exposure to university-wide financial activities, including operating budgets, capital planning, and debt financing, while collaborating with finance professionals, academic units, facilities teams, and auxiliary departments.
This analytically intensive role requires strong financial modeling skills, disciplined data management, and the ability to identify trends or issues requiring follow-up with operating units and senior leadership. The Financial Analyst II is central to maintaining USC’s financial planning infrastructure and must demonstrate sound judgment, attention to detail, and consistent follow-through.
Key Accountabilities & Duties:
• Coordinate, organize, and complete complex financial and business projects involving data extraction, evaluation, interpretation, analysis, and summary of findings
• Prepare and deliver formal presentations of analytical results to senior management
• Produce recurring and ad-hoc financial and operational reports, drawing conclusions and making recommendations
• Monitor financial activity for major operating areas or significant financial functions, identifying trends, issues, and potential solutions
• Escalate unresolved financial concerns to senior leadership for review and decision-making
Capital Planning Responsibilities:
• Maintain detailed capital project records and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy and audit readiness
• Track and manage capital project loan balances, repayment schedules, and related reporting
• Prepare presentation materials and summaries for capital planning committee meetings, translating complex data into clear insights
Financial Forecasting Responsibilities:
• Support quarterly reviews of financial forecasts submitted by operating units
• Analyze forecast data to identify variances, risks, and inconsistencies requiring follow-up
• Assist with reconciliation of forecasts against historical results, budgets, and institutional targets
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or Data Analysis
• Three or more years of experience in a financial or analytical role
• Experience in financial analysis and reporting, including forecasting techniques
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• Five years of financial experience
• Advanced financial modeling and analytical capabilities
• Knowledge of Workday Finance, Anaplan, Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint
• Experience within a university or higher education environment
• Proven attention to detail and ability to manage complex datasets
• Ability to meet tight deadlines, adapt to changing priorities, and handle ad-hoc leadership requests
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment

• Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
