Description:
American Public Education, Inc. (APEI) is currently hiring a Digital Strategist to support its web strategy and digital experience initiatives across its education platforms. This fully remote position is based in the United States and works under the direction of the Director of Web Strategy.
The role focuses on improving website performance, user experience, and conversion optimization through data-driven insights, cross-functional collaboration, and continuous digital enhancement. The Digital Strategist will act as a key liaison between IT, marketing, CMS, and analytics teams to ensure seamless execution of web initiatives aligned with organizational goals.
This position is ideal for professionals with strong experience in web optimization, UX strategy, CRO, SEO, and digital analytics who can translate business objectives into actionable technical and content improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with the Director of Web Strategy to define, prioritize, and execute website enhancements
• Improve user experience, site performance, and operational efficiency through strategic web initiatives
• Act as a liaison between IT and marketing teams to ensure smooth delivery of website updates and releases
• Manage intake processes for content updates, feature requests, and CMS-related tasks
• Coordinate with CMS teams to ensure accurate and timely execution of web content changes
• Maintain detailed documentation for web best practices, analytics insights, and technical guidelines
• Support website audits, crawl configurations, and content inventory management projects
• Contribute to SEO, CRO, accessibility, and personalization initiatives
• Analyze user behavior and web analytics data to identify optimization opportunities
• Recommend UX and conversion improvements based on performance insights
• Collaborate on user stories, acceptance criteria, and technical specifications for development teams
• Support training initiatives on web tools, processes, and digital strategy practices
Requirements:
• 5–7+ years of experience in digital strategy, web product management, or related roles
• Strong understanding of UX/UI principles and conversion rate optimization (CRO)
• Experience working with enterprise CMS platforms such as Sitefinity, Sitecore, or similar
• Knowledge of SEO principles, technical SEO, and website auditing tools (e.g., SEMrush, Screaming Frog)
• Experience with analytics platforms such as Google Analytics (GA4), ContentSquare, or Hotjar
• Understanding of Core Web Vitals and website performance optimization
• Ability to translate business goals into technical and user-focused solutions
• Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with IT, marketing, and content teams
• Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
Education / Certifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• Google Analytics (GA4) certification preferred but not required
