Description:
hackajob, in partnership with LexisNexis, is currently seeking a skilled and creative Data Visualization Engineer to join the Lex Machina product team. The role focuses on building advanced legal analytics solutions that help law firms and corporations better understand litigation outcomes, legal trends, and case intelligence through powerful data visualization tools.

The selected candidate will contribute to designing and developing interactive visual analytics tools that transform complex legal datasets into intuitive and user-friendly insights. You will collaborate closely with engineers, legal experts, and NLP specialists to enhance the platform’s analytical capabilities and user experience.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop interactive data visualizations using JavaScript, React, D3.js, and SVG to represent complex legal datasets
• Build backend data processing logic using Python and Pyramid to structure and deliver data efficiently for visualization
• Design user-friendly, accessible, and high-performance analytical interfaces
• Collaborate with legal analysts and subject matter experts to integrate new legal datasets into the platform
• Work closely with NLP engineers to incorporate extracted insights into visualization systems
• Continuously explore and implement modern technologies to enhance visualization quality and performance
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to maintaining high engineering standards within the team
• Ensure accuracy and clarity in presenting large-scale legal information to end users
Requirements:
• 3+ years of professional experience in data visualization or software engineering roles
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript, React, HTML, and CSS/SASS
• Experience working with D3.js, SVG, or similar visualization frameworks
• Ability to structure and translate complex datasets into meaningful visual insights
• Strong communication and collaboration skills within cross-functional teams
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical or design-related field, or equivalent experience
• Experience with Python is a plus
• Familiarity with PostgreSQL, SQLAlchemy, or Elasticsearch is an advantage
• Strong portfolio or code samples demonstrating visualization or frontend engineering work
• Passion for usability, accessibility, and high-quality user experience design
