[ Position Summary:
This role combines traditional cost accounting responsibilities with daily engagement on the production floor. The Cost Accounting Analyst will maintain standard costs, analyze variances, support continuous-improvement initiatives, and manage vendor claim processes to ensure accurate financial treatment and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and update standard cost data in the ERP system for raw materials, ingredients, packaging, labor and overhead.
- Validate BOMs, routings and labor assumptions to confirm accurate product costing.
- Analyze weekly and monthly variances from standard cost and produce detailed reports with root-cause analysis.
- Be present on the production floor regularly to observe processes, validate assumptions and collaborate with operations, quality and maintenance teams.
- Partner with operations to identify cost-savings opportunities via waste reduction, yield improvement and labor efficiency.
- Lead vendor claims: document issues, coordinate with procurement and quality control, track claim status and ensure proper financial treatment.
- Support new-product costing, customer pricing and marketing initiatives through detailed cost analysis.
- Assist with ERP transitions, including data migration, testing and go-live support.
- Support inventory control, participate in physical inventories and ensure correct accounting for obsolete or damaged goods.
- Contribute to weekly performance reporting, budget preparation and capital-spend analysis.
- Drive lean manufacturing initiatives and accountability around KPIs such as yield, downtime and labor efficiency.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related discipline.
- 3–5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment (food or CPG preferred).
- Strong working knowledge of standard cost systems, variance analysis and cost modeling.
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Deacom or similar).
- Advanced Excel skills and solid analytical/data-visualization capability.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail and the ability to communicate across departments.
- Comfortable spending regular time on the production floor.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing, process improvement and root-cause analysis.
Preferred Attributes:
- Experience managing vendor claims related to quality, performance or delivery.
- Ability to balance accounting precision with practical operational insight.
- Demonstrated initiative to drive process improvements and translate financial data into actionable recommendations.
- Clear communicator who can work cross-functionally to implement change.
