Claims Adjuster I (Worker’s Compensation) — Remote (Nevada focus)
Reporting to a supervisor, the Claims Adjuster I is responsible for handling workers’ compensation files with low to moderate medical and indemnity exposure. This is an entry-to-mid level position that requires accuracy, good judgment, and timely claim management to move files toward resolution while providing professional customer service.
General Summary
Under direct supervision, you will manage a caseload of workers’ compensation claims—completing initial triage, creating action plans, maintaining accurate claim records, and making decisions appropriate to the claim’s level of exposure. Typical files include Medical Only claims and claims with limited indemnity or legal exposure.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Receive, assess and open new claims; obtain required facts and verify coverage.
- Make initial contacts with injured parties, employers, and medical providers; determine compensability and create a plan of action.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date claim data in the claims system, including documentation and activity notes.
- Analyze case facts and set timely reserves based on medical cost expectations and disability assessment.
- Evaluate benefit payments and process claims in accordance with statutory and company guidelines; prepare and file state-required forms as necessary.
- Proactively coordinate medical care and use internal/external resources to control costs and manage exposure.
- Work with supervisors and defense counsel on legal questions; assist with minor settlement negotiations and litigation mitigation.
- Regularly review the caseload and take actions that efficiently advance claims toward closure.
Requirements
- 1–2 years’ workers’ compensation claims experience in Nevada.
- Solid understanding of workers’ compensation laws, statutes and regulatory requirements.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and professional customer service orientation.
- Comfortable working in an imaged/document-managed environment.
- Self-motivated, analytical, and able to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.
Certification
- Must obtain any state-required certification within mandated timeframes and maintain licensure through continuing education.
- Professional designations such as WCCP, AIC, ARM, CPCU or similar are a plus.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
Work Environment
- This role is 100% remote (work from home) and open only to candidates currently located in the United States and able to work without sponsorship.
- Candidates must provide a private, quiet workspace suitable for professional work.
- Must be available to work West Coast hours (Mon–Fri 8:00 AM–5:00 PM PDT / 11:00 AM–8:00 PM EDT).
- Occasional travel to off-site meetings may be required.
Salary Range & Benefits
- Salary Range: $48,000 – $65,000 per year.
