ROLE SUMMARY — Bookkeeper
We are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Bookkeeper to support the foundation’s financial operations on a part-time remote basis. This role will own day-to-day accounting functions, maintain accurate records for grants and programs, and help ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and internal controls.
LOCATION & SCHEDULE
- Remote role (work from home).
- Part-time, non-exempt — approximately 20 hours per week.
WHAT YOU’LL DO (KEY RESPONSIBILITIES)
- Accounts Payable & Receivable: Process vendor invoices with correct coding and timely payments; prepare and issue invoices and follow up on receivables.
- Banking & Reconciliations: Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards and other financial accounts on a regular basis to ensure accuracy.
- General Ledger & Reporting: Post and reconcile journal entries; assist in preparing monthly/quarterly/annual financial statements; track restricted vs. unrestricted funds and grant allocations.
- Budget & Audit Support: Assist in budget preparation, provide timely financial reports to department leads, and prepare documentation for annual audits.
- Compliance & Internal Controls: Ensure financial practices align with nonprofit accounting standards (GAAP) and organizational policies; maintain orderly documentation and filing.
- Payroll Support (recommended): Help process payroll, verify timecards, and track deductions and reimbursements when required.
- Ad hoc duties: Support other finance and administrative tasks as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Bachelor’s preferred).
- 3–5 years bookkeeping/accounting experience; nonprofit experience strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with accounting platforms (e.g., QuickBooks Online, Sage Intacct, or similar).
- Strong knowledge of AP/AR, reconciliations, and fund accounting principles.
- Comfortable preparing financial reports and supporting audit processes.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES & SKILLS
- High accuracy and strong attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational, time-management and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Able to work independently in a remote setting and collaborate with team members.

- Invoices and payments are processed accurately and on schedule, with clear supporting documentation.
- Bank, credit card and grant accounts are reconciled monthly.
- Financial reports are reliable, timely and support leadership decision-making.
- Compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and internal controls is consistently maintained.
- The Bookkeeper is viewed as dependable, proactive and solutions-oriented by colleagues and leadership.
